Q: When does 699 equal 83 percent? A: When someone wants to use statistics to convince people of a political point of view..

Before reading this, keep in mind that in 2009 there were over 785,000 physicians in the U.S.

If you are a regular reader of the conservative blog, the Drudge Report, you might have read the article under the headline, “83% OF DOCTORS 'HAVE CONSIDERED QUITTING' OVER OBAMACARE”

This seriously flawed study was also featured on Fox News (no surprise here).  The surveyed group is a fringe organization.  The survey method was amateurish.

Quoted from the article by Jeff Fecke on care2.com July 10, 2012, “The survey was conducted by fax and online from April 18 to May 22, 2012. DPMAF obtained the office fax numbers of 36,000 doctors in active clinical practice, and 16,227 faxes were successfully delivered. Doctors were asked to return their completed surveys by fax, or online at a web address included in the faxed copy. Browser rules prevented doctors from filing duplicate surveys, and respondents were asked to provide personal identification for verification. The response rate was 4.3% for a total of 699 completed surveys.”

The much respected AMA came out for the law.
